Flash Friday: Faculty turn!

Experimental floods
Today we tested an approach to create a flood = and I’d say it was a success! The coolest thing was watching water initially flood the riparian zone via a backwater flow path, followed by complete followthrough, and then return again to a draining phase. We’ve read about this in textbooks, but never observed in the field.flood2
Tomorrow’s Cross-Boundary Biogeoscience Friday
This Friday’s breakfast will be at the Social House on South Main Street at 7:30 = the Underground is no longer serving weekday breakfast.
Winter flooding
Rainfall exceeding 3/4″ on Wednesday resulted in immediate overland flow due to the saturated soils from the melting snow. Dylan captured some great pictures highlighting hydrologic connectivity between Stroubles Creek / adjacent floodplain (stream in background)
